BMI categories: Underweight (below 18.5), Normal weight (18.5–24.9), Overweight (25–29.9), Obese Class I (30–34.9), Obese Class II (35–39.9), Obese Class III (40+). BMI is a screening tool, not a diagnostic measure.
BMI has limitations — it doesn't account for muscle mass, bone density, age, sex, or body fat distribution. Athletes with high muscle mass may have elevated BMI without excess fat. Use it as one data point alongside other health metrics.
BMI formula: weight (kg) ÷ height² (m²). For Imperial: (weight in lbs × 703) ÷ height² (in²). A BMI of 22 is considered ideal for most adults.
